Vanpool – More Means Less

Less Money. Less  Emissions

Did You Know? Currently there are 47 registered vanpools in Mercer and Ocean  County. These vanpools represent 446 riders. These vanpools:

  • travel 8,853,500 miles per year .
  • 6,552,286 pounds of CO2 emissions are reduced per year.
  • 337,747 gallons of gasoline are saved per year.

Are you interested in adding to these numbers and saving money? Just how much you'll save depends on various factors, but consider:

7 people vanpooling 50 miles a day = 300 miles saved each day!

Greater Mercer TMA has many resources to help you get in a vanpool.   Our staff personally reviews each vanpool assistance request, providing the personal touch that computerized online matching programs lack.

First, check out our listings of existing Vanpools by contacting our office. If you find one that may work for you, our Commuter Services Manager will help you to get together with that Vanpool’s coordinator.
If you don’t see any vanpools that fit your commute, we can post your information online to see if there are others interested in starting a vanpool.

Starting A Vanpool
The TMA’s Commuter Services Manager will help you with every aspect of vanpooling, except driving it herself.
Tips to get started

• Recruit members - Commute with friends, commute with co-workers, commute with neighbors, or we’ll help you find people to ride with.   Our personal relationships with the vanpool coordinators ensure that you’ll have a smooth ride.
• No Van – No Problem. In fact, even those who have their own personal van prefer leasing from a 3rd party vanpool provider.  With this arrangement you pay a monthly fee to lease the vehicle and they take care of everything else (except driving,  gas & tolls).  Greater Mercer TMA works closely with the established provider in our area,  Vanpool of New Jersey  ,   and we facilitate  the personal connections that make a vanpool work.
• Once you have your group together, meet to discuss costs, driving responsibilities, meeting places etc…. Check out our Vanpool planner on the resource page, download it and go!
