Bring Your Bike On Board!
Want to take the train or bus but it doesn't go all the way? Want to ride your bike to work but it's too far? Then take your bike on transit! Taking your bike makes it easier to get to transit and easier to get around at your destination. NJ TRANSIT and SEPTA support bicycle access to their services, but have restrictions during the rush hours.

NJ TRANSIT Rail

Collapsible bicycle are permitted on NJ TRANSIT trains at all times. Standard frame bicycles are only permitted in handicapped accessible cars and are not permitted on peak period, peak direction trains (inbound 5:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.; outbound 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.).  Cyclists should board the train at a door with an international symbol of accessibility and keep their bicycle in the accessible area. Only two bicycles can be accomodated at a time per accessible car. Bicycles are not allowed on trains on major holidays.

NJ TRANSIT Bus

Buses in southern NJ (including Mercer County) are equipped with front bicycle racks. Bicycles are permitted on buses with racks at all times. When using a bike rack, you must notify the bus operator before loading or unloading the bicycle. Remember to remove all loose items from the bicycle before the bus arrives. To ensure your safety, never step out into the street side of the bus when loading or unloading your bike.

SEPTA Rail

Cyclists must occupy areas designated for wheelchairs. If a wheelchair passenger is already on-board, the cyclist must wait for the next train. On weekdays, no more than two bicycles per train will be permitted during off-peak trains (space permitting). Off-peak trains are indicated in the non-shaded portion of regional rail schedules. On weekends and major holidays, no more than five bicycles will be permitted on each train (space permitting).
